A.
Triple Junction a-SiGe
The Triple Junction a-SiGe (three slices of solar cells, one
superimposed on the other and each reacting to and drawing energy from
a different light spectrum) has been considerably improved by a new
germanium alloy. |

On
top of this the SolarCard now contains a fourth reflecting slice
consisting of silver and zinc (AgZnO) to increase the electrical
efficiency by reusing the non-absorbed light by sending it through the
active solarcell slices once again.

Improvement of the electrical efficiency
Solar modules used on the go hardly ever face the ideal situation of
being perfectly aligned towards the sun. The wrong angle of solar
irradiation and the different reflection rates involved caused high
performance losses within the previous generation of solar cells,
because only some of the sunrays could be used by the cell. SIStech
could finally discover the appropriate way of dealing with this
problem by readapting one of the miracles of Mother Nature. |

The inspiring example of a moth’s eye
The compound eyes of a moth offer on the one hand the divinely feature
not to reflect any light at all and on the other hand to exploit
residual light at night making a moth see things in the dark. |

About the new surface of the SolarCards
The
high-tech ETFE (Bayer Tefzel) lamination is not only for decades
resistant to UV radiation and high temperature, but could also be
improved by the new “Moth’ Eye” embossment offering a higher
solar yield. Thousands of “pimples” refract the light in a
specific way, so that the incidence angle of radiation does not matter
anymore. The “pimples” do not reflect the impinging radiation. |

Another
multi-level procedure leads to the desirable “lotus effect”. Thus
the surface of the SolarCards got even more water-repellent,
oleophobic, dirt-resistant and virtually self-cleaning. |
